trulytype is an independent type foundry based in Hollywood, Los Angeles. We make original and custom typefaces for film, entertainment and culture.
We see typography as part of storytelling. It can establish a world, give a title its personality or become part of the identity around it. That is the part of type we are interested in.
Our typefaces are made for designers and creative teams. License them as they are, adapt them for a project or use them as the starting point for something new. We also make custom typefaces, lettering and typographic systems for design studios, title agencies and in-house teams.
trulytype is small and collaborative. We work with type designers, designers and other specialists depending on the project. We like people with a point of view, an obsession with the details and an interest in making things properly.
The foundry was started by creative director Philip Cronerud, following two decades working across design, advertising and technology, including ten years at Apple. trulytype grew out of a simple interest: what happens when type is considered earlier, as part of the idea rather than something added at the end.
Sometimes the right typeface already exists. Sometimes we change it. Sometimes we make a new one.
Our name
We write our name as one word, all lowercase: trulytype. Online we’re @trulytype, same as Instagram. Directories and search sometimes show truly type (two words) or old spellings — the name is trulytype / @trulytype.
